Helpful Information and Resources for Guiding and Monitoring Your Seventh-Grade English Student
The methods we as teachers use for communicating with parents have gone “electronic”. I will be communicating through the parent portal and email, so I strongly recommend that you check the portal and your email at least once every one to two weeks. I will assume that you are checking the portal and that you are getting my regular emailed updates I will be sending out. (I regularly communicate using these tools because they are so informative. Please keep tabs on your student's progress so there are no nasty surprises at the end of a marking period.)
If electronic communication is a problem at all, please let me know as soon as possible and contact the office. The staff can give you alternate suggestions for staying informed about your student's progress.
A great strategy is to set a time each week devoted to having your student log into the Aeries portal and show you their progress. This will encourage your student's responsibility and ownership of his grades, and you will be well informed as well
If you ever have a question or concern, the best first step to take is to have your student approach me during lunch with the issue. This will encourage her taking responsibility and ownership of her success. Although I know teens are not always comfortable doing this, it is essential for them to learn to advocate for themselves, and I do try to be minimally scary!
Email is the very best way to reach me. I can usually respond the same day or by the next school day.
I look forward to a successful year with your child.
